Dr. Timothy Sweet-Holp

Dr. Timothy Sweet-Holp, 63 of Albany, Georgia passed away on February 23rd at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. He was born on August 2, 1961, in Painsville, Ohio, the son of Esther Holp and Dr. Darwin Chee. Timothy was a 1979 graduate of Yellow Springs High School in Yellow Springs, Ohio. He attended Sinclair Community College, in Dayton, Ohio, receiving as Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, in 1987. Timothy furthered his education at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, Ohio and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989 and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, in 1990. His educational journey ended at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, where he received his PhD in Political Science, in 2001. Timothy married Nancy Sweet on September 13, 1997, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dayton, Ohio. Timothy taught as an Adjunct Professor at Sinclair Community College, in Dayton, Ohio. He was a Research Assistant at the Center for Urban & Public Affairs (CUPA) at Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. Timothy was a Field Director at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He conducted Survey Research at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas. Timothy was Assistant Professor & Director of the Center of Excellence for Community Engagement at Albany State University, in Albany, Georgia. Timothy was a board member for the Center for Economic Development, in Albany, Georgia. He enjoyed helping other people and was passionate about spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Sweet-Holp, of Albany, Georgia; adopted son, Demario (Whitley) Cheevers of Atlanta, Georgia; father-in-law, Wayne Sweet of Hicksville, Ohio; brother-in-law, Rick (Sharon) Sweet of North Manchester, Indiana and Cindy Sweet of Hicksville, Ohio; two nephews, Austin (Caty) Sweet of Hicksville, Ohio and Jacob (Kelsey) Sweet of North Manchester, Indiana; two nieces, Adrienne (Eric) Beckman of St, Mary’s Ohio and Aimee (Rene Rodriquez Jr.) Wulff of Bryan, Ohio; four great grand-children, Kaelyn Wulff, Bryleigh Sweet, Bentley Sweet, Cora Beckman, Faye Beckman; adopted grand-children, Ariel Cheevers, Nathaniel Cheevers, Champion Cheevers, and Patience Cheevers; one cousins, Jule (Lee) Monnens, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Timothy was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Holp; father, Darwin Chee; step-mother, Gloria Chee; mother-in-law, Martha Sweet; aunt, Martha, Blakley; uncle, Clyde Blakley; two brothers-in-law, Randy and Ron Sweet, and cousin Karel Blakeley. Visitation for Timothy J. Sweet-Holp will be held on March 8 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home, 1503 Dawson Road, Albany, Georgia. Immediately following will be a Memorial Service. The family asks those remembering Timothy make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.
