Mrs. Sherry Lynn Butts

Sherry Lynn Peckham Butts left us on this earth on November 29, 2022 to her eternal heavenly home. Sherry was born September 20, 1959 in Biloxi, MS to Henry and Marion Peckham. As a child of a US Air Force C-130 navigator, she moved several times with her family and spent some time as a child in Japan. Her family finally settled in Bedford, VA where she graduated from Liberty High School in 1977. Sherry served as Bedford’s Junior Miss in 1976. After graduating high school, Sherry attended Virginia Tech meeting her future husband, Chris Butts, at a Wesley Foundation Welcome Weekend. Sherry and Chris were married June 15, 1980. After 2 years at Virginia Tech, Sherry transferred to Radford University where she earned her BS Nursing degree and became a registered nurse in 1982. Sherry and Chris lived in Lee County for 35 years and raised their three children, Jessica, Ashley, and Josh, there. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany. Sherry was a dedicated registered nurse providing nursing care to patients in Labor and Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care, the operating room, an outpatient surgical center, and home health. She trained the next generation of nurses as a clinical instructor in the nursing programs at Darton College and Albany Technical College for more than 10 years. Sherry also worked with a local attorney as a legal nurse case manager assisting clients with disability claims. Sherry loved her husband, Chris, and their three children, but was absolutely thrilled and passionate with her four living grandchildren. She spent time crocheting blankets, scarves, and stocking hats giving them all away as gifts or donations. She volunteered at Savannah Court Retirement Community in Camilla, GA leading water aerobics in the summer and chair aerobics in the fall and winter and helping out in their art studio and other activities for the residents. Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Captain Henry M. Peckham, father-in-law, Lloyd F. Butts, and grandchild, Dominic Fajardo. She is survived by her husband, Chris, of Lee County, her mother, Marion Peckham of Camilla, GA, mother-in-law, Marlene Butts of Hartsville, TN, children Jessica Fajardo (Jorge) of Lynn Haven, FL, Ashley Rogers (Nick) of Sharpsburg, GA, and Josh Butts of Leesburg, GA; her siblings, Cindy Leake (Harry), Steve Peckham (Debbie), Ken Peckham (Michelle), and Lori Hodges; seven grandchildren, Nico, Ella, Sophia, and Mathias Fajardo and Cayla, Gracie, and Sam Key; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Albany located at 145 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg, GA 31763. Family will receive visitors on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5-7 pm. A memorial and celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Dec 10, 2022 at 11 am officiated by Dr. Butch Knight, Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church.
