TSgt Samuel Garcia Jr.

Samuel Garcia, Jr. Albany – On April 13, 2018 Samuel Garcia, Jr. went home to Heaven. He was 89, born in San Benito, Cameron County, Texas to Samuel Garcia, Sr. and Beatrice Rodriguez Garcia. He was residing at Wynfield Park Health & Rehab at his passing. Prior to this residence he lived at Morningside Assisted Living, then at Century Pines for a number of years before going to Seymour Southern Comforts in Bronwood. He was greatly liked by all the residents that resided at these locations and was a complete gentleman to all the ladies. One of his favorite sayings that many remember him by is “Now you're clicking chicken.” He also loved his hats. Samuel served in the United States Army Air Corps/Air Force from 1945-1968 when he retired as a Tsgt. He was an aerial photographer during the Korean War and remained in photo mapping throughout his entire tour of service. He was stationed at Eglin AFB, FL., Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio, Dow AFB, Bangor, ME., Johnson AFB, Japan, Turner AFB, Albany, GA. and Forbes AFB, Topeka, Kansas where he retired. He also served many tours overseas in Libya and Ethiopia. After his retirement he was employed by Georgia Cigar as an outside salesman, worked for Pinkerton, for the Miller Brewer as a guard. He finally retired from the working force at the age of 65. Samuel was a devoted husband and father to his five children and provided for their every need. He was married to his wife Hazel (Diane) Coon Garcia for almost 60 years. He cared for her at home and at the nursing home in Sylvester. He was at the nursing home faithfully from 8 am to 5 pm every day. He wanted to make sure his bride was taken care of. He was also very proud of his children and their accomplishments in life. He loved to play golf and even made an ace on the par 3 third hole at Flint River. He worked as a marshal at Flint River Municipal Golf Course and River Point. He was known by many in the golfing arena and was missed when he could no longer play the game. He was the grandfather of twelve grandchildren, Angela (Shew) Elledge (Ron) Baker, FL, Brandon Brooks (Abby), Tallahassee, FL, Chris Garcia (Amanda) Albany, GA, Alysen McElveen (Nick) Jax Beach, FL, Sarah Alvarado (Juan) Tallahassee, FL, Stephen Mormile – Tallahassee, FL, Endya Stephens (Chad) Hahira, GA, Brett Garcia – Atlanta, GA, Ashley Garcia – Albany, GA, Justin Garcia – Killean, Texas, Chelsey Robinson (Justin) Keystone, Colorado, Callie Garcia – Albany, GA. He had fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Diane, his brother Romeo and sister Araceli, his daughter Norma Shew, son-in-law Bill Mormile and his great grandchild Colin McElveen. He leaves behind his sons Eddie Garcia (Debbie) Albany, GA, Tony Garcia (Cindy) Albany, GA, Robert Garcia (Sharon) Albany, GA, daughters Nita Anna Garcia – Tallahassee, FL and Betty Mormile – Tallahassee, FL, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
