Patricia L. Russell Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Laura Russell, nee Bennett, born July 13, 1928, in Exmouth, Devon, England, formally of Albany, Georgia, died January 12, 2011, in Anderson, South Carolina.Pat found her greatest pleasure as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As her children grew up she returned to work as a bank teller for First State Bank, Albany. In time she continued her education achieving an Associate's Degree from Albany Vocational College after which she worked many years in Special Education with the Dougherty County Schools. Pat's passion, after her family, was being of service to others. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, served as President of the Navy Wife's Club on several occasions, was a long time member and Sunday School teacher al Byne Memorial Baptist Church, Albany. She was a member, emeritus, of Crepe Myrtle Chapter 163 of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron as well as many other positions. Pat also belonged to the Widow's Club, Grandmother's Club, Ladies of Nassau and Daughters of the Nile.Pat is preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Russell, Jr., who died May 28, 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents George and Gladys, nee Wakely, Bennett, her brother, Harold Bennett, sister and brother-in-law Sheila and Ken Goss.Pat is survived by her five children, Janice (Donald) Davidson, Anderson, SC; Joyce(Fred) Jones, Albany, GA; Terry Russell, Athens, GA; Debra (Stephen) Elfrink,Belleville, IL; and Stephen Russell, Albany, GA; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Doug, Diane,Brian, Sheryl, Mark, Stephanie, Pamela, Thomas and Alan; 14 great-grandchildren, and 3great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bennett ofExeter, England, along with many nephews and nieces.In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Eastern Star EducationScholarship Fund. The donation can be sent to ESTARL, Grand Chapter, c/0 FlorenceNeese, Secretary, 2724 Ledo Rd. V-20, Albany, GA 31707, or the Alzheimer'sAssociation. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.The visitation will be Monday, January 17, 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home. An Eastern Star service will be held at 6:00pm.The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at 10:00am at Kimbrell-Stern. Internment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Albany. GA.
