Mrs. Louise Pait Ashton Obituary

Mrs. Louise Prevatte Pait Ashton of Albany, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the age 0f 105 at Morningside Assisted Living. Her funeral service will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church with a private interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Don Adams will officiate. The family will receive friends in Ford Hall at a reception immediately following the service. Mrs. Ashton was born in Seminole County on July 24, 1906 to Crawford James and Maggie Yates Prevatte. She graduated from Hopeful High School, attended Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from Freeman Business College. She moved to Albany in 1929 at the age of 23. She married Myers E. Pait of Albany in 1930 and together they had three children. In 1981, she married Byron F. Ashton and they had 12 wonderful years together A member of First United Methodist Church since coming to Albany, she was the oldest living member of the church at her death. She taught Sunday School and belonged to the Sapp Class and Fellowship Class and to numerous church organizations For 32 years, Mrs. Ashton was secretary of the M. W. Tift Grocery Company. She later was appointed Registrar of the Dougherty County Voter Registration Office where she served for 10 years. She was active in the community serving on the March of Dimes Board, the Easter Seal Society Board, Friends of Phoebe, the Phoebe Foundation and The Museum of Art where she was a frequent volunteer. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was an avid artist and poet most of her life. A devoted wife and mother she will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors included three children, Anita Pait Bacon and her husband Jim, Myers Pait, Jr. and Lacy Pait Lee and her husband Spencer; seven grandchildren, Berney Bacon Kirkland (Michael), Jim Bacon III (Gina), Lacy Bacon Meier (John), Mark Pait, Dayna Pait Anderson (Kelley), Walton Lee (Paige) and Paiton Lee; eleven great grandchildren, Michael Kirkland Andrew Kirkland, Jim Kirkland , Ryan Anderson, Hayley Anderson, Curt Hall IV (Jade), Ashley Meier, Mariel Meier Nelson (Billy), Spencer Lee, Murphy Lee and Elizabeth Lee; close family friends Austin Rizzo, Carolyn Hamilton, and Tina Harden and special nieces Judy Landau and Jan Shirah. She was preceded in death by her last sibling Mary Prevatte Wells of Vada, GA and her nephew the Rev. Charles A. Culbreth of Cairo, GA. The family wishes to thank the very devoted staff of Morningside for their care and help throughout the last 12 years.
