John W. Christiansen, Jr.

John W. Christiansen, Jr., of Albany, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Wilson Hospice House on Monday, October 20, 2025. He was the son of the late John W. Christiansen, Sr. and the late Daisy McKeithan Christiansen. Always looking to the brighter and lighter side of life, Mr. Christiansen was known as J.W. to most and sometimes as “Boss Man” to family, friends, and co-workers. Born in Whiteville, North Carolina, on July 27, 1938, Mr. Christiansen was a proud graduate of Nakina High School and attended N.C. State College to pursue a degree in Agricultural Education. He was a graduate of the North Carolina Military Academy and served his country as an officer in both the North Carolina National Guard and Georgia National Guard. Mr. Christiansen moved to Albany, Georgia, in 1961 and began his successful career in agricultural sales. He spent 17 years with Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals, starting as a products manager and later serving as a retail sales manager. His lifelong passion for agriculture led him to the pecan industry. In 1976, he became interested in pecan production, and in 1983, he joined Nut Tree Pecan Company as their national sales manager. He was a dedicated and influential figure in the industry, serving as a longtime member, top sponsor, and exhibitor for the Southeastern Pecan Growers Association (SEPGA). He also served as an officer and a director of the Georgia Pecan Growers Association (GPGA), where he was a member of the Board of Directors from 2002–2011, serving as Treasurer from 2003–2009. For his dedication and service, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Georgia Pecan Growers Association (GPGA) in 2018. A devoted member of Porterfield Methodist Church, he was an active member of the Key Sunday School Class and sang tenor in the Chancel Choir for 35 years. Mr. Christiansen was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Faye Christiansen, and their son, Michael Christiansen. He is survived by his loving daughter, Michele Christiansen of Albany, Georgia, and his bonus grandson, Landon Webb; his fiancé and life partner, Glenda Dews; his bonus daughter, Dana Dews, and bonus grandchildren, Dawson and Lexi Cate. He also leaves behind his long-time friends and caregivers, John Brown and Melissa Stevens. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Chirag Jani, Dr. Jose Tongol, Dr. Jay McAfee, Shelia Peak, Sherri Cartwright and staff at Phoebe Cancer Center as well as Whitney Dale and the compassionate care team of the Wilson Hospice House for all their timeless efforts and unyielding support. Visitation will be held at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home on Friday, October 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Porterfield Methodist Church on Saturday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Chuck Knight officiating. There will be a private entombment at Crown Hill Mausoleum after the funeral.
