Joan Marie Griner

Joan Marie Griner was a dedicated wife, mother, and GranJo. She was known for her bold and vibrant personality, contagious laughter, and the ability to make every gathering more lively. She had a generous heart, quick wit, and an unwavering devotion to the people she loved most. She passed peacefully at home in Albany, Georgia, on Monday, July 13 th , 2026, surrounded by her family. Joan was born on November 1, 1955, at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, FL to Harold and Anna Martin Hill, alongside her identical twin sister, Jean Sheetz Gallaup. They were born into a close-knit family of nine children. She attended school in Clay and Duval counties and graduated from Nathan Bedford High School in 1973. Joan built a remarkable 42-year career with K-mart as the Shoe Department Manager, where she built lasting friendships and was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. Through work, she proudly led a partnership program with the Lee County School System, providing opportunities and support for children with special needs. She also enjoyed participating in SilverSneakers at her local gym, where she formed many cherished friendships. While she was proud of her career and community involvement, her greatest accomplishment and joy was the family she loved so deeply. For 40 wonderful years, Joan shared a loving marriage with her husband, Roger. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, and family. She could often be found in the kitchen, where she found joy in cooking and caring for her family and friends. She never missed a chance to celebrate their accomplishments, offer words of encouragement, or simply be there when they needed her. Joan was the heart of the family, always putting her loved ones first. Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, Harold and Anna Hill; her twin sister, Jean Sheetz Gallaup; her brothers, Joseph and Martin Hill; her sister-in-law Dot Hill; her nephew, Bobby Hill. She is survived by her husband Roger Griner; her daughters, Staci Evans, Toni Campbell (Clint), Kaycee Duke (David), and Logan Adams (Thomas); her grandchildren, Christian Evans, Bishop Campell, Campbell Evans, Landen Adams, Robbee Duke, Baker Adams and Ruby Duke; her great-grandchildren, Cash Evans, Sterlynn Campbell, Stetson Campbell, and Cooper Jane Evans. She is also survived by many siblings, nieces, and nephews. Joan fought a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Though the disease gradually took away her physical abilities, it never took away her strength, sense of humor, or the love for her family. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and Georgia Hospice Care in Albany for their compassionate care and support. She made the brave decision to donate her brain and spinal cord to the Mayo Clinic to help advance ALS research and bring hope to future families. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at Kimbrell-Stern in Albany, Georgia. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Graveside services will be at Crown Hill Cemetery following the funeral.
