Mrs. Jacolyn Holland Murphy

Jacolyn Holland Murphy passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at Phoebe North Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern. Visitation will also be at Kimbrell-Stern to be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Rev. Scott Stanfield will officiate with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Jacolyn Holland Murphy, was born December 6, 1931, in Albany and was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Grier Murphy and her parents, Madge Holland Lofton and Jack Holland. Survivors include sons Morgan Stanford Murphy (Gail) Juliette, GA, Mark Randall Murphy (Bea) and David Kelly Murphy (Joy) of Albany, daughter Cherie Murphy Holderness (Hayes) of Greensboro, NC. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren Morgan Deidre Murphy, Hayes Ragland Holderness, Jr. (Ryan), Henry Richmond Holderness (Katherine), Murphy Holland Holderness, Mary Katherine Murphy Iler (Kevin), Jacolyn Emily Murphy, Ashley Laurel Murphy, Kelli Elizabeth Murphy, Morgan Grier Murphy, II, brother Ned Holland (Donna), and stepsister Carol Lofton Davis (Mark L.). A lifetime resident of Albany, Mrs. Murphy grew up a bit of an athletic "tomboy" and was selected as a cheerleader for Albany high school. She was an avid golfer, winning the Ladies Club Championship at Doublegate. She became a talented portrait artist fostered by her beloved grandfather, Herbert S. Holland, a nationally acclaimed portrait photographer. Many Albanians enjoy her portrait work in their homes. Mrs. Murphy had a special love for animals and frequently took in unwanted, broken animals from veterinarians. To her children's delight she nursed them back to health and they were adopted as family pets. The house was full of squirrels, snakes, mice, cats, ducks, and dogs which required great patience by her husband Morgan. In recent years her teacup poodles King Tut and Sugar Foots provided great companionship for her. Mrs. Murphy had a special sense of humor appreciated by her close friends who she enjoyed sharing stories with in true Southern storytelling style. She was a loyal friend and you always knew where you stood with her. The family would like to express gratitude to the doctors and nurses who cared for her during her recent illness. We are indebted to the caregivers who made it possible for her to spend her recent weeks in the comfort of her home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albany Humane Society 1705 W.
