Mrs. Helen Claire Peavy Rushton

Mrs. Helen Claire Peavy Rushton, 91, of Albany, GA. died April 28, 2015 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, GA. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday May 1, 2015 at Byne Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow at Floral Memory Gardens. The Rev. Charlie Brown and Mr. Rushton Allen will officiate. Mrs. Rushton was born on February 24, 1924 in Fitzgerald, GA. to the late Kate Manooch Peavy and Henry Morgan Peavy, Sr. She attended schools in St. Petersburg, FL and Fitzgerald, GA. Mrs. Rushton graduated from Fitzgerald High School and Perry Business School in Albany, GA. She met her husband, Walter Burke Rushton in Albany. After he completed his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II, they began married life of 50 years in Albany. Mrs. Rushton was a bookkeeper for the construction business, Rushton Brothers Contractors, which was owned by the three brothers, Walter, Herbert and Lee Rushton. Later she became a bookkeeper and office manager for the surgery practice of Dr. Fountain, Rawls and Oglesby where she worked for 25 years. Mrs. Rushton enjoyed her church and her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge. Survivors include her daughters, Claire Rushton Allen (Marvin Jr. “Mel”) of Albany and Kay Rushton Peters (Ken) of Birmingham, AL. a brother, Henry Morgan Peavy, Jr. of Spring Hill, FL., grandchildren, Rushton “Russ” Allen (Angie) of Albany; Melissa Allen Mutert (Dan) of Dunwoody, GA; Nathan Allen of Albany; Julie Peters Lee (Gardner) of Birmingham, AL; Leigh Ann Berte (Mark) of Mobile, AL; great grandchildren, Annalise, Elizabeth and Olivia Allen; Claire, Amelia and Walter Mutert; Rowan Allen, Catherine, Anna and J. Gardner Lee; Julianne and Linden Berte, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Rushton was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Burke Rushton, and a sister, Marilyn Peavy Bowers. Appreciation is expressed to her many caregivers at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus and Mrs. Pat Bell of Albany. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home.
