Dr. Thomas Agnew Hilsman

Thomas Agnew Hilsman, MD died Sunday, August 23, 2026 at Willson Hospice House. Dr. Hilsman was born in Albany, GA at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. He grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School In 1964, after which he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and then earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1972. He did a internship from 1972-1973 at Kessler Airforce Base in Biloxi, Mississippi and completed his family practice residency from 1976-1978 at Carswell Airforce Base in Fort Worth, TX. He served in the US Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Medical Corps till 1981. Dr. Hilsman practiced from 1981-1985 at Palmyra Hospital in the ER. In 1985 he then established his well-respected private practice, in Albany, Georgia, where he practiced for more than three decades. In 2012 Dr. Hilsman joined Phoebe Physician Group at Phoebe Primary Care at Dawson Rd. In 2018 he retired from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital then became the Medical Director for CareConnect in Dawson, GA. He was certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and was a member of the Dougherty County Medical Society and the Medical Association of Georgia. He was a 5th generation physician in Albany, GA proceeded by: Jeremiah Hilsman, MD, Palaemon L. Hilsman, MD, Agnew H. Hilsman, MD, and Palaemon L. Hilsman, II, MD. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of the Revolution, the Albany Men’s Garden Club and the Albany Men’s Coin Club. Dr. Hilsman was an avid supporter of UGA, a horticulturalist enthusiast, hunter, fisherman and a devoted father and grandfather who earned the admiration and respect of his fellow colleagues. Dr. Hilsman is survived by his wife of 50 years Donna Hilsman, daughter: Anna Hilsman Hendley (Sean Perry Hendley) of Albany, GA, grandchildren: Hilsman George Hendley and Rust Thomas Hendley. Daughter- Lucy Hilsman Stone (Arthur Frank Stone) of Albany, GA, grandchild: Brumby Hilsman Stone. Daughter: Ella Hilsman Fleming (Paul Joseph Fleming, II) of Marietta, GA, grandchildren: Addeline Hilsman Fleming and Paul Joseph Fleming, III. His beloved animals, Missy, Pippi, Buttons, Grey Paws, and White Paws. He is proceed in death by his parents Dr. & Mrs. Palaemon L. Hilsman, II, MD and his brother Palaemon L. Hilsman, Jr. Visitation will be Saturday, August 29 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church from 9 a.m.- 10 a.m. and the memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks for memorial donations be made to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 212 N.
