Dr. Michael Scott Edwards

Dr. Michael Scott Edwards passed away peacefully at his home in Albany, on April 24, 2025 after a year and a half long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Dunia, his two children, Nathan Edwards (Amber), Shelby Edwards Bagwell (Brandon), two grandchildren, sisters Barbara Sanderson (Joe), Jennifer Edwards, brother Charles Edwards (Lori), stepmother Mary Beth Edwards, aunt Phoebe Burns (Sonny) and three cousins. Dr. Mike, as he was affectionately known, was born in Indianapolis but raised in Lake Jackson, Texas. After completing his medical school training and Obstetrics and Gynecology residency, he went on to finish his Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. He and his family arrived in Albany in 1998. He became a member of the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital medical staff, serving as director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine department until his retirement. His love and dedication to his patients was evident to anyone who knew him, and he was loved in return. It was his calling. He was also known for his keen intelligence, voracious reading appetite, witty sense of humor, kindness, and a deep abiding faith. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and “grandpa”. Dr. Mike garnered many achievements and accolades during his earthly life, but none greater than hearing the Lord Jesus say: “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Visitation will take place at First Baptist Church of Albany at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, April 29th with the memorial service following at 5:30 pm. The Rev. Butch Knight will officiate. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to our First Baptist Church family, friends, the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital family and the community at large for their love and support throughout this time. Our world is a little darker today. Please shine your light a little brighter.
