Mr. Darren Craig Maples

Darren Craig Maples, 47, of Albany, Georgia, died unexpectedly, Saturday, March 4, 2016, from heart failure following a tonic-clonic seizure. Craig was born February 10, 1969, in Albany, Georgia and was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a technician at Procter & Gamble. He attended Albany area public schools, graduating from Albany High School in 1987. Craig went on to receive his Associate of Science degree from Darton College in 1990, and a Bachelors of Business Administration degree and his commission as Second Lieutenant into the Georgia Army National Guard at Georgia Southern University in 1993. He served with honor and distinction in the Georgia National Guard with Co. D-, 121st Infantry Regiment, 48th Brigade from 1989 to 2006, with ranks ranging from private to First Lieutenant. He was activated with his unit in 1990 in support of Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. During the last two years of his life, Craig actively worked with other members of the Sherwood Acres neighborhood to establish and formalize a Neighborhood Watch Program. For his work in this endeavor, Craig has been recognized by his kind neighbors for his perseverance and diligence in ensuring that the program was effectively implemented. In October 2015, our wonderful son, brother, and uncle, Craig, redevoted his life to our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ at Sherwood Baptist Church. Craig will be remembered for his devotion to God, country, family and friends. He is survived by his mother and father, Janice and Kenneth Maples, Albany; his brothers, Alan Maples, Leesburg, and Bruce Maples, Albany; his sisters-in-law, Tina Maples, Leesburg, and Jane Maples, Albany; his nieces: Dana Maples Rothfuss, Jacksonville, FL, Kara Maples Wellington, Albany, Elizabeth Maples, Albany, and Laura Maples, Albany; his nephews, Alan Maples, Jr., Leesburg, and Harris Maples, Albany, his great-nephews, Liam Rothfuss, Jacksonville, FL, and Axl Wellington, Albany, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Alma and Marion Tolbert, Sr., Flippen, GA, and Leta and Burnice Maples, Moultrie, GA. Friends and family may visit at the Maples Family residence, Albany from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, or call 436-6417. Viewing will be held at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home, Albany, this Friday, March 11, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at the Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home Chapel, Albany. Rev. Don Adams from First United Methodist Church, Albany, will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Craig’s nephews, Alan Maples, Jr. and Harris Maples, nephew-in-law, Miles Wellington, Albany, and friends Colonel Todd Conyers, retired Army, Dothan, AL, Neal Murphree, Prattville, AL, and George Haggerty, Albany.
