Glynn M. Hatcher Obituary

Though he spent a career traveling the world, Glynn Hatcher always knew hewould return to Albany for his retirement. �That was never in doubt,� saidTeresa Hatcher, Glynn�s wife of 34 years. �He truly loved South Georgia andafter he retired he often took visitors on tours of the back roads of thearea.� Glynn Martin Hatcher died Monday evening, March 24, of complicationsfrom cancer. Glynn Hatcher was born in Elmodel, Georgia on October 15, 1943,the son of C.E. Hatcher, a farmer and businessman and Agnes FairclothHatcher, a school teacher. His childhood was spent in Baker County where heoften sat at the end of a field row watching his father plow behind a mule.Glynn Hatcher was the youngest of six children including two girls who dotedon him. �He was the baby and they looked after him,� said Teresa Hatcher.�He was always close to his brothers and sisters.� The Hatcher childrenenjoyed an idyllic country life of swimming and fishing in creeks when notdoing farm chores. �He really loved to recall his boyhood days in Baker County,� said hisdaughter, Michelle Hatcher Hester of Gadsden, Alabama. �He was deeplyinterested in our family history and for him that�s where it all began.� TheHatcher home features family portraits dating back to the turn of theTwentieth Century. Glynn Hatcher spent a 17-year career in the U.S. AirForce which sent him all over the world and throughout America. He retiredafter rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. His military service instilledin him a profound sense of patriotism. �He put the American flag out infront of the house every morning and brought it in every evening,� saidTeresa Hatcher. �And I think his patriotism included a fascination withpolitics. He enjoyed watching politics on television and discussing it withhis friends.� Like many retired military men, Glynn Hatcher liked to live an orderlylife, a fact which sparked mischief in his daughter. �He liked to keepeverything in its place,� said Michelle Hatcher Hester. �The telephone satjust so by his chair and pens, ashtrays and magazines all had their place.Sometimes when he left the room I would move them around and he�d notice itas soon as he walked back in and he�d put them back where they belonged.We�d all laugh.�
