Mrs. Ouida Williams Fincher

Ouida Williams Fincher, age 87, passed away on December 4, 2022. Ouida was born moments after her twin sister, Geta, to Burgess and Lucy Williams, in Early County, Georgia on December 18, 1934. She graduated from Blakely Union High School in 1953. She moved to Albany, Georgia and graduated from Perry Business College. Oudia married Carol Brent (C.B.) Fincher on June 6, 1965, at First Baptist Church of Albany (FBC) where she has been a member for almost 64 years. Ouida found immense joy in being a stay-at-home mother and a devoted wife. She was an active member of The Women’s Missionary Union (WMU). In 1976 she became the director of the program at FBC, served two terms on the WMU’s State of Georgia Board of Directors, was a frequent speaker at WMU events, and was an active member the remainder of her life. When her son was in high school, she started working as the office manager for Dr. Willis Hendley, OD until she retired. Ouida had a lifelong interest in sign language. Her interest began when she joined FBC and a close friend was part of the deaf ministry. She later served as lead interpreter. Her passion for sign language and service continued into her eighties as she supported deaf children at church events. She loved mission trips, especially trips later in life to Georgia Baptist Children’s Home Family Ministries’ Camp Hawkins for children with special needs. Mrs. Fincher was preceded in death by her daughter Carole Lynn Fincher and her brother Wilburn Burgess Williams. She is survived by her husband, C.B. Fincher, son, Russell Orton Fincher, and his wife, Michelle Lybrand Fincher, of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Emma Fincher Le of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ethan Curens Fincher, and Evan Senderling Fincher; one great-grandchild, Genevieve Ann Le; sister Geta Williams Poole of Blakely, Georgia; sister-in-law Sharon Fincher Coker Riddle of Rainbow City, Alabama; and a host of other extended family members and long-time friends too numerous to mention. In celebration of Ouida’s life, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Albany, 145 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg, Georgia, with interment to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. Butch Knight will be officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
