Mrs. Nancy Salter Smith

Nancy Salter Smith, 77, of Albany, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 18, 1947, in Albany, Nancy spent her life pouring out kindness, wisdom, and grace to all who knew her. A dedicated educator, Nancy began her teaching career at the Department of Defense Dependent School in Bitburg, Germany, where she touched the lives of children from military families abroad. Upon returning home, she continued her calling as an elementary school teacher at Radium Springs Elementary School in Albany, Georgia. More than just a teacher, she was a mentor, encourager, and trusted friend to her students. Many of whom sought her out years after retirement, still inspired by her compassion and care. Nancy’s deep love for God shaped every part of her life. She was a faithful member of Sherwood Baptist Church, where she found strength, community, and purpose. Her life was a reflection of the values she held dear; faith, family, and service to others. She is survived by her three children, David Zigan and his wife Alessandra Zigan, Jennifer Zigan and her fiancée Lee Devalinger, and Bill Zigan and his wife Jennifer Zigan, who were the pride of her heart. Nancy was also blessed with grandchildren Camryn, Tyler, Patyn, Haley, Val, Sage, and Dakota, and a great-grandson, who brought her immeasurable joy. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchild was boundless, they were her greatest treasure and source of happiness. Nancy is also survived by her devoted brothers, Judge John Salter and Charles Salter. Her love for her family knew no limits. To Nancy, the word "in-law" didn’t exist, those who joined her family were simply daughters, sons, and sisters in every way that mattered. She lived a life of selfless love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished. Nancy Salter Smith leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and warmth that will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. Her memory will live on in every smile she inspired, every lesson she taught, and every heart she touched. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern. The service will be at 2:00 PM with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
