Mrs. Marilyn Siprell Dye Smith

Marilyn Siprell Dye Smith, age 91, long term resident of Whitehall Lane, Albany, GA and current resident of Tallahassee, FL died peacefully August 25, 2026. Mrs. Smith was born September 6, 1934 in West Elkton, OH and moved to Apalachicola, FL when she was 12 years old. She graduated high school in 1952. She enjoyed traveling the world as an Air Force wife and ensured her family actively participated in the culture of each community. She settled in Albany in 1971 and subsequently retired from U.S. Civil Service employment at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base. Mrs. Smith took great pleasure in her retirement and stayed busy with gardening, cooking, reading and volunteering. She was an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) holding various offices, the Golden Key Club and served numerous years as a volunteer at Phoebe Putney Hospital. She also found time to be a volunteer box office worker at Theater Albany. She devoted many hours to Morningside Methodist Church and her Anchor Sunday School class. Mrs. Smith is survived by her children Donna J. Dye (Gary B. Sharpe) of Tallahassee, FL, Rhonda Dye McDougall (Martin Van Moss) of Greenville, SC, Kevin H. Dye (Sheila), nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Shirley Brown of Bristol, FL. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas H. Dye and Alphaeus C. Smith, her long time companion, Lester B. Watson and her son Roy O. Dye and his wife Lori. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Howard O. and Nona Divine Siprell, sisters Marjorie Siprell Reed, Doris Siprell Lucas and brothers Kenneth R. Siprell, Gerald (Buck) Siprell, Robert (Bobby) Siprell and Howard L. Siprell as well as a grandson, Thomas R. Dye. Whether she was called Mother, Mom, Granny, Marilyn or Mrs. Smith, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memories of her generosity, good cooking, laughter and volunteering will be remembered by family, friends and her church community. The funeral will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 12:00PM at Kimbrell Stern Funeral Home, 1503 Dawson Rd, Albany, GA with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Morningside Methodist Church pastor Jan Masters will officiate. The family will receive friends at Kimbrell Stern 11:00AM to 12:00PM prior to the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morningside Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
