Karen L. Lundy Obituary

Karen Lucieime Lundy, 55, formerly of Albany, died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at her home in Douglasville, Georgia.The body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, June 28, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rev. C. Read Heydt will officiate.Born February 19, 1950, Karen was the daughter of Antoinette (Toni) Kniskern Lundy and the late Walter H. (Bully) Lundy.Karen attended Albany Public Schools and was a 1968 graduate of Westover High School. She attended St. Andrew's Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina and graduated in communications science from the University of South Florida in Tampa.Karen worked for a number of years at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, where she received special recognition for outstanding achievement by an employee with disabilities. Ai the time of her death, she was employed in the Public Affairs Department of the U.S. Armed Forces Command at Fort McPherson in Atlanta.While living in Albany she served as secretary of the Albany Debutant Club of 1969, wa a member of the Albany Junior League, the Albany Chorale, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. .Afler moving to Douglasville she was a member of the West AtlantalDouglasville Choral Society and served on its Board of Directors. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.Karen was known for her friendly personality and ever-cheerful disposition. Stricken with polio at the age of three, she refused to let disability limit her goals and ambitions. Through determination and dedicated effort, she achieved total independence and a full life, forging a successful career, and participation in public service, the arts and her church. Karen's courage, optimism, enthusiasm and genial good humor were a source of inspiration to her friends and business associates.An animal lover, Karen treasured her two cats and was especially fond of horses. While al St. Andrew's College, she was a co-founder of the Equestrian Club which subsequently developed prize-winning equestrian teams.Karen was preceded in death by her sister, Jan Lundy Gossett. In addition to her mother, Karen is survived by a niece and nephew, Meaghan and Matthew Gossett of Watkinsville, Georgia, an aunt and her husband, Kate and Mike Gecewich of South Sioux City, Nebraska, an uncle, Peter Kniskern of Washington, D.C., an aunt Runelle Moore and cousins Leroy and Ann Wilkerson, Sylvia and Joe Dinkel, all of Sylvester, Georgia..Friends wishing to remember Karen may make memorials to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. 212 North Jefferson Street 31701.
