Janice Lindsey Sheppard

Janice Lindsey Sheppard, 88, of Albany, died Sunday, August 23, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. Family and friends will be received at First Baptist Church of Albany at 10AM on Wednesday, August 26 th . Her funeral service will be at 11 AM with entombment to follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum. The Rev. Butch Knight will officiate. Mrs. Sheppard is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoke Smith Lindsey, Sr., of Ft. Gaines and her brother, Hoke Smith Lindsey, Jr. Mrs. Sheppard was born in Ft. Gaines and lived in Albany since 1960. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Albany since 1961. She was involved with and served on many committees at the church. She especially enjoyed being part of the Building Committee when the church moved to their current location on Oakland Parkway. Mrs. Sheppard graduated from Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia Southern College for undergraduate and Masters degrees in Elementary Education. She received her ED Specialist Degree from Valdosta State College. Mrs. Sheppard joined Alpha Delta Kappa, an educational sorority. She worked for the Dougherty County School System retiring as the principal at Lincoln Elementary School. Mrs. Sheppard also taught remedial reading at Albany Junior College. She was part of a partnership that founded and ran Kindelore Preschool for many years. Mrs. Sheppard is survived by her husband of 66 years: Charles Sheppard, Albany; 5 children: Suanne Sheppard Collmus (Bob), Johns Creek, GA, Dawn Sheppard Brooks, Albany, John Lindsey Sheppard (Kelly), Tifton, GA, Kristi Sheppard McKay (John), Bentonville, AR, Jana Sheppard Domyslawski (David), Suwanee, GA. She has 13 grandchildren, Lindsey Collmus McNiel (Collin), Whit Davis Collmus (Maddie), Carlee Collmus Habicht (Blake), Logan Grey Brooks, Dailyn Domyslawski Sloan (Matthew), Abigail Marie Domyslawski, Henry Smith Domyslawski, Griffen Charles McKay, Kendall Patton McKay, Parker Sheppard McKay, Davis Walter McKay, Sutton Bass Sheppard, and Charles Davison Sheppard. She also has six great grandchildren, Luke Martin McNiel, Finley Grace McNiel, Hayden Robert McNiel, Caldwell Sheppard Collmus, Eliza Jane Collmus, and Otto Joseph Habicht. She also was blessed with two sisters, Judith Jones of Dothan, AL, Peggy Morgan (Ben) of Ovieda, FL and sister in law, Jan Lindsey, Ft. Gaines, GA. We are especially grateful to the sweet caregivers who loved Mom, Sheila Rivers and Eleanor Glaze and also to the care from many helpers at Georgia Hospice.
