George Wesley Funderburke Obituary

Mr. George Wesley Funderburke, 99 of Sylvester Rd. in Albany passed away October 18, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital of natural causes after a long and fruitful life. Funeral services will be Friday 11 AM at First United Methodist Church Walden Chapel. Rev. Carrie Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Funderburke was born on July 4, 1912 to the late Cora McCollum and Jefferson Lee Funderburke who was a Methodist minister in Brinson, GA. After serving in the Navy on the Solomon Islands during World War II, he returned to Waycross, GA and later settled permanently with his wife Minnie Lee in Albany, GA. As a resident of Albany for 66 years, he was actively involved with the Masonic Lodge 591, and received a 50 year pin from the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Hasan Shrine Temple. Mr. Funderburke was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Young At Heart Club and the Fellowship Sunday School Class Mr. Funderburke was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Minnie Lee Griggs Funderburke and his grandson, Matthew Ertlschweiger. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Glinda Funderburke of Marietta, Sandra Ertlschweiger and her husband Hap of Valdosta, sons, David Funderburke and his wife Cindy of Warsaw, NC, Don Funderburke and his wife Becky of Kennesaw and Danny Funderburke and his wife Jan of Merritt Island, FL, grandchildren, Heather Fick of Marietta, Holly Greer and husband Davis of Kennesaw, Hillary Veitch and husband John of Cumming, Justin Baker and wife Molly of Moultrie, Lindsey Childress and husband Zan of Hahira, Martin Ertlschweiger of Valdosta, Marc Ertleschweiger and wife Erin of Marietta, Jennifer Cowfer and husband Danny of Burnett, TX, Amanda Funderburke of Kennesaw, Sarah Funderburke of Merritt Island, FL and Daniel Funderburke of Merritt Island , FL, several great-grandchildren include, Hannah, Shannon, and Joey Fick, Aiden and Noel Greer, Grayson and Austin Baker, Gunner and Asher Childress and Josie and Alex Vera.
