Eleanor M. Middleton Obituary

Eleanor Joy Miller Middleton of Albany, died on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Morningside Assisted Living.Her funeral service will be 2 PM Tuesday at Covenant Presbyterian Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. William D. Coker officiating. Mrs. Middleton was born on December 29, 1914 in Eufala, Alabama to Henry Obediah Benjamin and Sadie Florrie Magee Miller. She moved to Albany with her parents at an early age. She is a graduate of Albany High School and a 1936 graduate of Valdosta State College for Women with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice and Music.Mrs. Middleton was married to her high school sweetheart on October 31, 1936. For years she gave private voice lessons as well as teaching in Albany Junior High School and directing the glee club. During those years she organized a singing group called the "Starlighters" who won recognition and were awarded a trip to New York to perform on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour. A member of First Presbyterian Church for most of her life, Mrs. Middleton served as Choir Director and Soloist for many years. She shared her talent at other Albany churches for worship services as well as weddings and funerals. She and her husband recently joined Covenant Presbyterian Church.Mrs. Middleton enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and was an avid golfer. She was a member of the Doublegate Ladies Golf Association and the Georgia Senior Women Golfers. She was also a member of the Albany Women's Club.A devoted wife and mother, she will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mrs. Middleton enjoyed six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Frank Faison Middleton, Jr., two children, Joy Middleton Carver and her husband Burkett, Dr. Frank Faison Middleton, III and his wife Pam; six grandchildren, John Thomas Rutland, Frank Middleton Rutland, Margaret Middleton Hatcher,Frank Faison Middleton IV, Sarah Middleton Vrolijk, and Banks Middleton Margeson; nine great-grandchildren; Christopher Lane Hatcher,Jr., John Taylor Hatcher, Benjamin Allen Hatcher, Jacob Middleton Vrolijk, Catherine Eleanor Vrolijk, Anna Banks Vrolijk, Frank Faison Middleton V, William Boles Middleton, and Richman Brooks Margeson.The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
