Daniel Warren Pope

Daniel "Dan" Warren Pope, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy built on faith, service, and devotion to the people he loved. Dan was born on March 3, 1931, in Brunswick, Georgia, to Elton Benjamin Pope and Robbie Maddox Pope, the youngest of nine children. Growing up alongside his siblings, Lucille Smith, Louise Lippthrat, Frankie Hathaway, Inez Lynn, Mildred Pope, Irene Chapman, Louise Holloway, and Brooks Pope, he learned early on the value of family and hard work, lessons that would carry him through the rest of his life. He graduated from Glynn Academy High School in Brunswick before continuing his education at Perry Business School, Armstrong College in Savannah, and Darton College, steadily building the foundation for a life defined by discipline and purpose. That discipline led him to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953, where he rose to the rank of E4 Senior Airman and proudly served during the Korean War. It was a chapter of his life he carried with quiet pride, one that shaped the steady, dependable man he would become. In June of 1954, Dan married the love of his life, Joann Patha, beginning a marriage that would span over 72 years and weather every season of life together. Their union blessed them with four children who grew up watching their father model what it meant to work hard and love well. For 39 years, Dan built a career with CSX Transportation in Albany, Georgia, as a sales executive, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his integrity and dedication. But Dan's life was never just about work. He found joy on the golf course, where many afternoons were spent in good company and friendly competition. He poured himself into his community through Interfaith Ministries, the Kiwanis Club, the Jaycees, Meals on Wheels, and Toastmasters, always looking for ways to serve others. His faith was the anchor of his life. As a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder at Porterfield United Methodist Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany, Georgia, Dan didn't just attend church, he lived his faith out loud, guiding and mentoring others along the way. In July of 2018, Dan and Joann began a new chapter together at Penney Retirement Community, continuing to share their lives side by side. Dan will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, charismatic sense of humor, and deep love for his family and community and treated everyone he came across with humility, integrity and decency. His life was a testament to service, whether to his country, his church, his career, or the people fortunate enough to call him a friend. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the generations he loved so dearly. He is survived by his wife, Joann, his four children, James A. Pope (Terri), Daniel J. Pope, Cynthia P. Bailey (Mike) and Jennifer P. Latham (Mike) and multiple grandchildren to carry on his legacy.
